Beazley vs Chubb

Beazley is a broker-only cyber and management liability specialist, now owned by Zurich; Chubb is the No. 2 U.S. business insurer with a full range.

Verdict

Beazley and Chubb meet most often on cyber, D&O, professional liability and E&S property, usually on a broker's desk. Chubb ranked No. 2 among U.S. business insurers by 2025 commercial lines direct premiums written, at $23.25 billion (NAIC), and No. 1 in other liability and products liability. Beazley ranked No. 47 at $1.94 billion, with $1.26 billion of it in other liability, the line that holds cyber, D&O and professional liability. Beazley is a specialist with a Lloyd's managing agency heritage; Chubb is a generalist with specialist depth.

Both sell through brokers, but Chubb also takes very small businesses (revenue of $2 million or less) through an online quote site and sells package policies, workers' comp and a BOP through agents. Beazley is broker-only, with small business brokers using the myBeazley platform, and it does not write workers' comp, commercial auto or a standard BOP. Both have an E&S outlet: Beazley Excess and Surplus and its Lloyd's syndicates; Westchester at Chubb.

Ownership is the live variable. Zurich completed its takeover of Beazley on October 1, 2026, and Beazley's CEO is leaving. Zurich's completion announcements did not address changes to Beazley's U.S. companies or brand. AM Best rates Beazley's U.S. insurers A (Excellent), and put them under review with positive implications in March 2026. Chubb's main subsidiaries are A++ (Superior), affirmed January 2026. Pricing depends on class, limits and loss history, so have your broker market to both.

Choose Beazley if

  • Cyber, D&O, EPL or miscellaneous E&O is the main purchase and you want an underwriter known for that work, including Side A DIC.

  • Your broker is placing E&S property that admitted carriers decline.
  • You do not need workers' comp, auto or a BOP from the same carrier.

  • You need foreign package coverage for staff or property abroad; Chubb operates in 54 countries and territories.
  • You want the strongest published financial ratings in this pair: A++ (Superior) from AM Best, AA from S&P.
  • You are a very small business and want an online quote starting point.

Before choosing, ask which entity issues the policy: admitted, Beazley Excess and Surplus, a Lloyd's syndicate or Westchester. Non-admitted policies generally lack state guaranty fund protection. Most liability policies here are claims-made, so check retroactive dates and notice rules.
